*Zach chuckles and gives his son a light shove.*
"Come on, we've got work to do. You too, Galen. Let's go."

*Galen nods slowly and follows his dad, still in a stupor. Arman shakes his head.*
Arman: Wicked...
Noriye can't help but laugh at her sons' reactions. At least they hadn't been upset. It made her wonder about Sennah, whose high-strung attitude pert-near matched that of her mother and grandmother. If anyone was going to overreact, it would be her. Noriye settled back, nibbling her bottom lip. She hoped her daughter would take this well. More than this, though, she hoped that Sennah's grandmother--when the time came to tell her--would be civil.
Noriye dreaded telling her mother: she didn't think Nerys would react well at all to this news. It was something that she'd have to tell her father first. On more than one occasion, Odo had been the man in the middle. Noriye doubted that he liked that role too much--and felt bad for putting him there time after time--but he was the only one who could, at least somewhat, keep her mother at bay. In the end, he could usually get her to listen to reason: that's why Noriye needed him now.
*Lost in thought, Noriye started when a loud clang echoed through the house. She shouted in the direction of the spare room.*
"What's going on in there?!"

*Arman’s voice reverberated back to her.*
Arman: Smooth move, retard! You almost dropped that on my toe.
Galen: I didn't mean to, Arman. Quit being obnoxious.
Zach: That's right. You'd better lose that attitude right now bud, or we'll have some words. *pauses, then hollers back to his wife* Everything's alright honey. Galen just lost grip on the mattress, that's all.

"Well you three be careful. I don't want anyone hurting themselves."
*The baby began to wiggle and fuss. She was probably getting hungry. Shifting her to one arm, Noriye carefully pulled herself up.*
"Zach? Did you bring the baby's formula in?"

*Zach had to sigh.*
"No, not yet...*pause* Arman, be careful with that! You're gonna knock the..."
*Another large crash is heard.*
"Damn it! *sighs* Noriye, how much did you like that purple lamp?"

*Noriye shook her head.*
"Don't worry about it, Zach. Just get that stuff outta there and set up the nursery—or at least the crib. This little girl needs a place to sleep tonight."
*After a pause, Noriye walks toward the door.*
"I'm gonna get the baby's formula out of the car. Be right back."

*Sennah was walking back over to her place after spending the afternoon at Hannah's. It was after dusk and she had to squint a little to see the path in front of her. Nearing her driveway, Sennah saw a light come on inside their car: someone was leaning into the back seat, obviously searching for something. As she got closer, Sennah recognized her mother's form. She was about to say hello when something about Noriye made her words catch in her throat. Her mother was not alone: she carted a baby with her. And in the dim light that shown from the car, Sennah could tell that this child was not Bajoran or human or any other species with average colored skin. The baby's flesh bore an ashy gray hue. Perplexed, the young woman stood silent behind her mother until she turned around.*

*Noriye turned around after retrieving a sack that contained the baby's formula. She hadn't expected to see her daughter and, thus, started a bit when she caught glimpse of the woman behind her.*
"Hi sweetheart. How long have you been home?"

"I just got back. Mom...*shakes her head.* Please tell me you're watching someone's kid for the weekend."

*sighs* "No Sennah, I'm not. This little girl was orphaned. Your father and I are going to adopt her."

"So you're telling me I have a Cardassian sister. *scoffs* Great. What's next, a Romulan uncle?!"

*Noriye's eyes narrow.*
"I don't appreciate the sarcasm, Sennah."

"Well how did you expect me to react, mom? You bring home a Cardassian and automatically you think that I'm gonna be all happy and accept her as my sister? Well I'm sorry, but I can't do that."

*Sennah begins to walk to the house. Noriye is right behind, determined that the discussion wasn't going to end there.*
"Oh really, and why can't you? She hasn't done anything to you."

*shaking her head* "Oh, you didn't just say that....Mom, the Cardassians were responsible for the pain of thousands! Think about what they did to Grandma and everyone she loved. You didn't even get to see your own grandparents because they died in the Occupation."
