It is early morning. Noriye couldn’t sleep any longer. Sennah’s words from the night before still echoed in her head, compounding her anxiety. She knew that she had to tell her parents what was going on, but she dreaded it—more than anything else, at the moment. She expected her mother’s reaction to be 10 times more explosive than Sennah’s had been.
Sliding out of bed, careful not to wake Zach, Noriye crept into the other room. Ordering a cup of warm cider from the replicator Noriye sat down on the sofa and began to think of what she was going to say to her parents. Suspense was beginning to build inside, becoming almost excruciating. It was time to tell at least one of them. Activating the main view screen, Noriye contacted Deep Space Nine. She requested a direct channel with her dad’s office, hoping that he would be awake by now.

Odo had just stepped into the office and was getting a cup of coffee from the replicator when he heard his consol beep. He frowned.
Great. Who would be calling THIS early in the morning?
He hoped it wasn't anything too complex; he wasn't ready for that yet. Sitting down at his desk, Odo set the cup down and activated his consol.
"This is Captain Odo."

*Seeing her father's face, Noriye smiled.*
"Hey dad. Sorry to call so early..."

"Oh, hello Noriye! Yes, it is a bit early, sweetheart, but you know your calls are always welcome. How are you?"
*He regards her for a moment.*
"It looks like you haven't slept very well."

*Noriye snickered a bit. Her father had a knack of reading her face: he could usually tell that something was wrong before she ever said anything.*
"Yeah, didn't have a very good night. But I'm okay. How are you and mom doing?"

"Oh, you know your mother...always busy. But I've been pretty busy myself it seems; we had to refit the Defiant with new pylons. That old gal's getting up in years, you know."

*Noriye smirks* "I hope you're talking about the Defiant and not mom."

*Chuckles* "You know me better than that. Nerys would kill me if I said anything about her age."
*He smiles and lowers his voice.*
"Though, for an older woman, your mother is most certainly a looker."

*Odo smiles. He's about to say something else when his attention is taken away from the monitor. Off screen, Noriye can hear another's voice.*
Ensign: Excuse me Captain. I have the reports you requested from last night's shift.
Odo: Very good Ensign...*turns back to the monitor briefly* Excuse me for a moment, Noriye. Business calls.

*While her father is busy conducting business at DS9, Noriye herself recieves a call to duty. The baby awakens and begins to cry. Seeing that Odo is still occupied and probably would be for a few minutes, Noriye stands up and goes to the nursery.*

*Odo spent several minutes talking to the ensign and lecturing him on office etiquette.*
Odo: I understand that this is difficult for you to remember, but it is good manners to ring the buzzer when you want something, rather than stepping into somebody’s office unannounced.
Ensign: *nods nervously* Yes Sir. I'm sorry.
Odo: It's quite all right. No harm came of it today--luckily my daughter is a nice person and forgives interruptions--but what if it had been an official call, something that isn't meant for an Ensign? Believe me, an Admiral wouldn't be as tolerant.
Ensign: I understand, Sir. It won't happen again.
Odo: *nods* You are dismissed. And by all means, Ensign, try to relax. Get yourself a jumja juice. Compose yourself.
Ensign: Aye Sir. I will try.
*The ensign quickly leaves. Odo turns back to the monitor, chuckling.*
Odo: Sorry about that. Poor fellow. He was as jumpy as a......*blinks* Noriye?

*Noriye had the baby in her lap; she was feeding her breakfast. Looking up at her dad, she gives him a nervous smile.*
"Uh dad...I sorta have something to tell you."
